NCC Widens Smoking Ban to Entire Facility

Following the government's recent move to *regulate cigarette
smoking, a medical facility has announced that smoking will be
*prohibited in its entire indoor and outdoor area.

최근 일고 있는 정부의 흡연 규제 움직임에 이어 국내의 한 의료
시설에서도 건물내에서는 물론 옥외에서도 흡연을 금지하겠다고 발표했다.
``We decided to *issue the smoking ban to lead the national
campaign against smoking,'' said an official of the National Cancer Center (NCC) yesterday.

"우리는 흡연 금지를 선언하여 전 국가적인 금연 운동에 앞장설
것입니다."라고 국립 암센터의 한 관계자는 언급했다.
Located in Ilsan on about 13,000 pyong of land, the NCC was built to provide high-tech medical care to cancer patients as well as increase the treatment rate of Koreans *suffering from the disease. One pyong *equals 3.3 square meters.

일산 1만3000평 부지에 위치한 국립 암 센터는 암 환자들에게 첨단의 암 치료를 제공하고 암으로 고통받고 있는 한국인들의 치료율을 증가시키기 위해 건설되었다. 한 평은 3.3평방미터이다.
Although the current health laws *stipulate that buildings must
*designate smoking areas, this is the first time that a smoking ban will be implemented for an entire facility. The center is set to officially open in March.

현행 보건법이 건물내에 흡연 구역을 지정할 것을 명시하고 있음에도
불구하고 건물 전체에 금연이 실시되는 일은 이번이 처음이다. 암센터는 3월에 공식적으로 개관될 예정이다.
In line with current health laws, if people are found smoking on the *premises of the NCC, they will be *fined 30,000 won.

현행 보건법에 따라 만일 암센터 구내에서 담배를 피우다 발각된 사람은 3만원의 벌금을 물게 된다.
``We will post non-smoking signs around the facility and *carry out various activities to *publicize our campaign,'' the official said.

"우리는 건물 전역에 금연 표지를 부착할 것이며 금연 운동을 홍보하기 위한 다양한 활동을 벌일 것입니다"라고 관계자는 언급했다.
The amount of cigarettes smoked by Koreans has grown considerably in recent years, especially among teens.
최근 몇 년 사이에 한국인들의 흡연량은 특히 십대들 사이에서 상당히 증가하고 있는 추세이다.
According to a report issued by the Korean Association of Smoking and Health last week, Koreans were found to smoke an average of 6.3 cigarettes a day, or 115 cigarette packs a year.
지난 주 한국 흡연 및 보건 협회가 발표한 보고서에 따르면 한국인들은 하루 평균 6.3개피를, 1년에는 평균 115갑의 담배를 피우고 있는 것으로 조사되었다.
