'링킨파크', 그래미상 수상

한인 조셉 한(23) 씨가 멤버인 메탈 랩 그룹 '링킨파크'(Linkin Park)가 그래미상을 수상했다.

27일 코미디언 존 스튜어트의 사회로 LA 스테이플스센터에서 열린 제44회 그래미 시상식에서 링킨파크는 노래 '크롤링’(Crawling)으로 하드록 보컬 부문에서 그래미상을 수상했다. 이들은 최우수 록 앨범과 신인상 후보에도 올랐었다.

DJ를 맡고 있는 한 씨와 리드 싱어 체스터 베닝턴, 래퍼 마이크 시노다, 기타리스트 브래드 델슨, 드러머 롭 버든, 베이시스트 데이빗 파렐 등으로 구성된 링킨파크는 워너브라더스 소속으로 발매한 데뷔 앨범 ‘하이브리드 시어리’(Hybrid Theory)으로 미국 내에서 600만 장, 세계적으로 1100만 장 판매율을 기록했다. 2000년에 발매된 이 앨범은 현재까지도 매주 10만 장씩 판매되고 있다.

캘리포니아주 패서데나의 아트 센터 칼리지 오브 디자인에 재학 중 시노다를 만나 그룹에 참여하게 된 한 씨는 일반 DJ들과는 달리 다른 뮤지션들의 음악을 쓰지 않고 자신이 직접 만든 샘플로만 제작한 디스크를 스크레치, 공연에 사용하며 독특한 음악을 선보여 눈길을 끌어왔다.

비주얼 아트 분야에 뛰어난 한 씨는 링킨파크의 뮤직비디오 구상과 감독도 담당했으며, 시노다와 함께 그룹의 앨범 커버 디자인도 했다.

한편 오디오 앨범 '나는 내가 원하는 사람' (I'm the One That I Want)으로 그래미 최우수 코미디 앨범 (Best Spoken Comedy Album) 부문 후보에 올랐던 한인 스탠드업 코미디언 마가렛 조 씨는 미국 코미디계의 대가 조지 칼린의 ‘네이팜 앤드 실리 푸티’(Napalm and Silly Putty)에게 우승을 빼앗겼다.

세계 170여 개국에서 15억 명이 지켜보는 가운데 개최된 이날 행사에서는 지난해 여름 선풍적인 인기를 모았던 21세의 알리샤 키스가 신인상과 올해의 노래, 리듬 앤드 블루스 여자 보컬상, 최우수 리듬 앤드 블루스 앨범, 최우수 리듬 앤드 블루스 노래 등 5개 부문을 차지해 99년 힙홉가수 로렌 힐이 세웠던 최다 수상 기록과 나란히 하게 됐다.

코엔 형제들의 영화 ‘오 브라더, 웨어 아트 다우?’(O Brother, Where Art Thou?)의 전통 컨트리 사운드트렉은 지난해 컨트리 라디오 방송국이 등안시했는데도 불구하고 놀라운 앨범 판매율을 기록한 것에 힘입어 올해의 앨범상을 받았다.

‘워크 온’(Walk On)을 연주해 이날 시상식의 문을 연 베테랑 록그룹 U2는 올해의 레코드상을 비롯해듀오 또는 보컬 그룹 록 퍼포먼스, 듀오 또는 보컬 그룹 팝 퍼포먼스, 최우수 록 앨범 등 4개 부문을 수상했다.
