지난 1월에 보도된 녹취록에서 "비판적인 기자들 감옥에 보내겠다"던 김건희 씨가 대통령 당선자가 확정된 지 이틀이 채 지나기도 전에 서울의 소리를 상대로 1억 원 손해배상 소송을 하자, 서울의 소리를 지지하는 해외동포들이 진실을 알리기위해 고분분투하는 서울의 소리를 돕기 위해 3월 31일 (미국 시각) 고펀드미(GoFundMe)에서 모금을 시작했다. 목표액은 십만 불이며, 모금은 기한의 정함 없이 진행되고 있다.

'서울의 소리와 공정한 언론을 도와달라'는 제목의 글에서 해외동포들은 조선, 중앙, 동아 (조중동) 상위 3개 언론사가 보수 정당에 유리한 극도로 편향된 보도를 하며, 이런 보도가 네이버나 다음 같은 포털의 대부분을 차지하고 있는 문제점을 지적했다. 이들은 "2021년 발표된 옥스퍼드대 부설 로이터저널리즘연구소의 디지털뉴스리포트에 따르면, 한국인의 언론 신뢰도는 겨우 32%로 46개국 중 38위를 기록했다"고 비판했다.
해외동포들은 또한 "지난 대선에서 윤석열, 김건희, 최은순에게 170개의 비리의혹이 제기됐으나, 주요 언론들은 이런 의혹들을 거의 보도하지 않았을 뿐만 아니라 윤석열과 국민의힘에 호의를 보였고 아주 소수의 공정한 언론 매체만이 의혹들을 보도했다"면서, 이런 의혹에는 "김건희 씨의 허위 이력과 50억 주가조작 혐의가 포함되어 있다"고 했다. 또한 이런 수많은 혐의에도 불구하고, 검찰의 기소 절차가 아직도 시작되지 않았음을 지적했다.
고펀드미 글에서는 김재원 국민의힘 최고위원이 김어준의 뉴스공장에 출연해서 "방 빼야 하지 않겠나"라고 발언한 것은 윤석열에 비판적인 언론은 불이익을 받을 수 있다는 것을 암시한다면서, 서울의 소리와 김어준은 대선 기간뿐만 아니라 지금도 과감히 진실을 보도하고 있다고 전했다.
해외동포들은 서울의 소리에 즉각적인 도움이 필요하다면서 모금에 동참을 호소했다. 또한 윤석열과 김건희의 언론 탄압과 정치적 보복을 그냥 두지 않을 것이라고 경고했다. 그리고 공정한 언론은 민주주의의 기반이며 바른 일을 하는 소중한 언론사를 지켜야 한다면서, 언론의 자유를 위해 같이 싸워 줄 것을 부탁했다.
모금에 동참하는 방법은 고펀드미 사이트(https://gofund.me/9b06ad7b)에서 페이팔, 구글페이, 신용카드(Credit Card)나 데빗카드(Debit Card)를 이용하면 된다.
언론자유를 위한 이 모금 운동은 한국에서는 서울의 소리, 미주지역에서는 JNCTV, 딴지USA와 함께하고 있다.
한편, 미씨유에스에이(MissyUSA) 회원들도 이 소식을 접하고 "김건희는 언론탄압 중단하라"라는 글을 올리는 등 동참을 호소했다.

In South Korea, the biggest media companies from the authoritarian era are still dominant today. The top three newspapers – the Chosun, JoongAng, and Dong-A dailies – provide extremely heavily biased coverage for the conservative party, business conglomerates, and their views. These articles make up most of the content on portal sites Naver and Daum, where most Koreans get their news. It's no wonder that only 32 percent of South Koreans trust the media, according to 2021 Oxford-Reuters Institute Digital News Report, ranking 38th out of 46 countries.
In this biased landscape, only a handful of objective media outlets were brave enough to report news with honesty during the presidential election campaign period, reporting on 170 allegations of fraudulent and illegal acts committed by Yoon Suk-yeol, his wife Kim Keon-hee and her mother, Choi Eun-soon. These allegations range from Kim's stock manipulation of 5 billion Won to falsified credentials in the résumés and many already have a copious amount of evidence to support them. Moreover, despite these numerous allegations, no prosecutorial proceedings have been initiated.
Most of the mainstream media outlets never covered any of these 170 allegations, showing their favoritism toward Yoon and his conservative party in a shockingly open manner. Even those that reluctantly wrote about some of these topics did so with a very partisan point of view, often obscuring important facts that directly point to Yoon and his family's alleged wrongdoings.
Backed by the extremely loyal mainstream media, merely two days after Yoon was elected, his wife Kim Keon-hee sued the Voice of Seoul for 1 million Won, reacting in accordance to her vow to "jail all critical journalists" after she gained power as revealed in the recordings of Kim's voice as published in January 2022. A few days later, a member of Yoon's party attended Kim Eo-jun's News Factory radio show and told the host Kim Eo-jun to "get ready to vacate his room", indicating that things won't get easier for any media outlets that do not give preferential treatment to Yoon. Both the Voice of Seoul and Kim Eo-jun have both dared to tell the truth during the election campaign period and are continuing to do so even now.
The Voice of Seoul has an immediate need for our support. We cannot let it be ravaged by Kim Keon-hee's barefaced political revenge. We cannot let Yoon and Kim oppress journalism and mold it the way they want. The unbiased press is the bedrock of democracy and we need to ensure the survival of the precious few that are doing the job that they are supposed to do.
