Biz Sees Worsening Climate for 2001
내년도 재계 전망 먹구름 조짐
Most enterprises foresee that the nation's economy will worsen
further, to the mid-IMF crisis level, during the first quarter of next year.
대부분 기업들은 내년도 1/4분기 동안 국가 경제가 IMF 위기의 중반
수준으로 더욱 악화될 것이라고 내다봤다.
According to a survey of 1,993 manufacturing companies in major cities around the nation, the business statistical index (BSI) reached 63 on average, down 46 points from 109 registered in the fourth quarter of this year.
전국 주요 도시의 제조회사 1,993곳에 대한 조사에 따르면 경제 실사
지수는 평균 63으로 올 4/4분기에 109를 기록한 수치보다 46포인트나
떨어진 것으로 나타났다.
This figure compares with the 1998 period, when the BSI *lingered
between 61 and 75 under the IMF bailout program.

The *surpassing of 100 in BSI means more businesses predict economic
*upturn and vice versa.

BSI가 100이 넘어선다는 것은 많은 업계가 경제의 호전을 예상하고 있음을
의미하며 100미만인 경우는 그 반대를 나타낸다.
The survey, conducted by the *Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), also showed that the cities of Taegu and Inchon are most *vulnerable to the possible economic difficulties.

상공회의소가 실시한 조사에서도 대구, 인천 등의 지역이 경제적 어려움에 가장 취약한 것으로 나타났다.
Taegu has been *devastated by the *collapses of the commercial vehicle division of Samsung Motors and construction firms like Woobang, while Inchon has been hit by the crisis involving Daewoo Motor.

대구시는 삼성 자동차 상용차 부문과 우방 등 건설회사의 붕괴, 그리고 인천시는 대우 자동차와 연관된 경제 위기로 타격을 입고 있다.
The index felt by the manufacturing enterprises stood at 37 for Taegu and 55 for Inchon, respectively.
제조업체가 느낀 지수는 대구시에서 37을, 인천시에서는 55를 각각
나타냈다.
``The index in Taegu has continued to fall amid anxiety over the
possible *bankruptcies of small and medium-sized enterprises, affected by the falls of Samsung Motors, Woobang and Saehan,'' said KCCI.

"대구시의 BSI는 삼성 자동차, 우방, 새한 등의 붕괴로 이미 타격을
입었으며 중소기업이 도산될 가능성에 대한 불안속에 지금도 계속 떨어지고 있다."고 상공회의소는 언급했다.
KCCI went on to say that the Inchon companies have also begun to feel the heat of the economic downturn, as many of them have close business ties with the *insolvent Daewoo Motor.

인천 지역의 기업들도 부도난 대우 자동차와 밀접한 연관을 맺고 있었기 때문에 이미 경제 하강의 기류를 체감하기 시작했다고 상공회의소는 계속해서 언급했다.
The index for raw materials amounted to 58 while those for current profits and financial state stood at 61 and 65, respectively. The index for domestic consumption also registered the low figure of 66.
실물 경제 지수는 58에 이르렀으며 경상 수익과 금융 부문의 지수는 각각 61과 65를 기록했다. 국내 소비 지수 역시 66으로 낮은 수치를 기록했다.
