Six Affected Bank Unions to Launch Strike Today
감자 대상 6개 은행 노조 오늘 파업 돌입
Six commercial banks have been on keen *alert against a strike
slated for 9 a.m. today by respective labor unions *protesting the banks' projected merger or *integration into a holding company under the government-initiated financial restructuring.
* alert : signal given to warn of danger : 경계, 비상

6개 시중 은행은 각 은행 노조가 정부 주도의 금융 구조조정에 따른 지주 회사로의 합병 및 통합 계획에 반대하여 오늘 오전 9시로 예정하고 있는 파업에 대비해 비상 태세를 갖추고 있다.
The *affected banks are Housing & Commercial Bank (H&CB),
Kookmin, Peace, Kwangju, Cheju and Kyongnam.

파업 대상 은행들은 주택, 국민, 평화, 광주, 제주, 경남 은행 등이다.
They are determined to call in all of their staffs and *contracted workers for normal operation and are expected to seriously suffer in the event of a *protracted strike.

해당 은행들은 정상 영업을 위해 모든 직원과 계약 직원들을 소집하기로 결정했으나 파업이 장기화 될 경우 심각한 타격이 있을 것으로 예상된다.
A Kookmin Bank labor leader said that all employees below manager level have already expressed their *intention to take part in the strike. As a result, the walk-out is expected to be stronger than the general strike staged last July, he added.

국민 은행 노조 대표는 과장급 이하의 직원들이 이미 파업에 동참할 의사를 밝혔다고 언급했다. 결과적으로 이번 파업은 지난 7월의 총파업보다 더 강력해 질 것이라고 그는 덧붙였다.
All Kookmin unionists also *resolved to tender their *resignations en masse in a protest against the merger Monday. Two thirds or some 8,000 of the total workforce of 12,000 are union members.

국민 은행의 전 노조원들은 월요일 합병에 반대하여 집단 사직서를
제출하기로 결의했다. 총 직원 12,000명 가운데 2/3, 즉 8000명이
노조원이다.
Unionists of other banks are also planning to join the strike from Dec. 28, causing *inconveniences for clients in *withdrawing and *depositing money through the end of the year.

타 은행의 노조원들도 12월 28일부터 파업에 동참할 예정이어서 연말을 통해 돈을 인출하거나 입금하려는 고객들의 불편이 예상된다.
Huh Shi-an, chief of the public relations department of Kookmin, said, ``We will make efforts to maintain normal network operation and bill clearance procedures and keep ATM machines filled with cash. We will mobilize all non-union members, along with retired personnel.''
국민 은행의 허시언 홍보부장은 "우리는 전산망과 어음 결제과정이
정상적으로 유지되고 항상 ATM기에 현금이 채워져 있도록 노력할 것이며 퇴사한 직원들과 비노조원 전부를 동원할 계획이다"라고 말했다.
